At the dojo in Meridian we teach Shoshin Ryu, a system of martial arts that promotes self improvement through self defense. Students learn a practical skill-set that can help them defend themselves in any situation, and gain confidence, self awareness and improved character and discipline through their training. We offer classes for children and adults and are currently welcoming new students.

We have recently added an Iaido class to our weekly schedule. Iaido is the Japanese art of drawing and cutting with the sword and embodies a profound synergy between grace and precision. This martial discipline, often described as the “Way of the Sword,” is not merely about mastering the physical technique of drawing and striking with a katana, but also about cultivating inner harmony and mindfulness. Practitioners of Iaido perform kata, or choreographed forms, that simulate combat scenarios, each movement meticulously executed to achieve excellence in form and fluidity. The art emphasizes the seamless transition from stillness to action, embodying a meditative state where every motion is deliberate and purposeful. Through rigorous training, Iaido fosters not only exceptional swordsmanship but also a deep sense of discipline and tranquility, reflecting the harmonious balance between mind, body, and spirit
