The 9th annual event was held on September 5th, Labor Day. This was a family friendly event to share Japanese culture with various performances and displays, such as the lion dance, Taiko (traditional Japanese drumming), calligraphy, origami, Japanese martial arts, ennichi carnival, anime and onigiri bento.
This year, Grandmaster Fujima Shunojo, famed classical dance master from Chicago, performed traditional Japanese dance to Idaho audience. Also referred to as “Kabuki” dance, the traditions can be traced back to the 1700’s. Fujima Shunojo is known worldwide as one of the greatest living teachers of classical Japanese dance, and in 2013, was awarded the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation Award for his work. He travels nationwide to perform.
