SORA — Artist Profile
SORA is a sumi ink calligraphy and live performance artist based in Portland, Oregon, originally from Usuki, Oita, Japan.
Working under the name SORA Shodo (宇宙書道), her artist name “SORA” — meaning universe and sky — was given to her by her late calligraphy master.
She creates both traditional calligraphy pieces and dynamic live performances, and has exhibited and performed at galleries, cultural events, and community festivals throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
She is affiliated with the Sogen calligraphy association in Japan under Futo Suzuki-sensei, and will soon serve as a judge for its kids division — a role reserved for those with multiple award wins.
Her motto: “No Doubts.”
